| The
Process
The following is an overview of the sequence of events of a typical
job and is helpful information for anyone considering or installing
new counters. Although this outline focuses on kitchen counters
the process is the same or similar for most installations.
Process:
First and foremost we will come to you, this gives us a chance
to meet and discuss what exactly it is you are trying to accomplish.
We will take measurements, draw out a rough sketch of the project,
determine square footage and how many slabs will be needed, discuss
sinks under mount/top mount, backsplash, and edge detail, and
any other special requests that you may have.
Once we have confirmed a date and time to start and received a
deposit these are the steps in which the countertop project goes
through. The production steps are tear out, templating, fabrication,
and installation. Tear out and templating occur on the same day.
Preparation:
If your project requires that we tear out and remove your existing
countertops, we will do so before the templating. We will also
disconnect your plumbing at time of tear out, so be sure not to
use your dishwasher until your plumber has reconnected the water.
Template:
In the templating process, we make a pattern of your cabinets.
During this phase: All sinks/cook tops/faucets are checked for
compatibility and fit (therefore all such units must be on-site
at template). Cabinets are reviewed for any adjustments required,
as best can be determined. Overhang, general support and any personal
preferences are discussed. Any refinements needed to cabinetry,
etc., which will be required prior to installation of your countertops,
will be discussed with you. Seam placement will be discussed
When we arrive for templating, we ask that you have cleared your
countertops and keep the work area free of any objects. This will
help us to finish the template efficiently, and will also protect
your items from any dust or damage. Templates usually take a couple
of hours. We template every single job that we do, this ensures
us that we have the exact measurements of your existing countertops
and or any other special instructions that may be given. Templating
also gives you the customer the chance to come and see how your
project will be laid out on the slab. This is where we can discuss
movement patterns and include or omit certain parts of the slab.
Sink:
During installation, you’re under mount sink(s), if applicable,
will be mounted under your stone. We ask that you do not use the
sink in any way for at least 12 hours. Please keep this in mind
when scheduling your plumber to reconnect the water and drain.
Also, cook tops and faucets, etc. will be dropped into place for
confirmation of fit.
Fabrication:
Prior to fabrication, we encourage you to approve your slabs.
We also encourage you to come and visit our shop/showroom and
see the templates laid out on you slabs. This is where we can
discuss the flow patterns and placement for you project.
Installation:
At installation, we ask that you also clear the work area of any
objects and clear a path for the installers to carry the granite.
The installation phase can take the better part of a day; and
can require some final cutouts to be made in your home. Please
keep in mind that this is a major remodeling job, there may be
some residual dust over the next couple of days, be sure to check
items left in cabinets. We recommend the drawers be removed. Items
under the cook top and sink cabinet must be removed to allow access.
Some dust can result even though our installers are equipped to
catch the majority of it. Granite, if not resin coated, is sealed
at time of installation.
Job Completion:
Your inspection of the finished job is very important. The lead
installer will review the installation with you, answer any questions
you may have and ask for payment of the final balance due for
your project. |
